Dedicated in memory of Eric Nourse and David Reinhart

David Reinhart (left), Eric Nourse (right)Eric Nourse and David Reinhart met in 1989 at Oregon State University and were fraternity bros while living in the same house for 4 years. Throughout those years their bonds grew. They went on their first extended 12 day backpacking trip starting in the Sawtooth Wilderness of Idaho and continued to backpack together with friends every year for the next 20 years through all of the western states. They successfully climbed Denali together in 2006. They traveled South America to climb Aconcagua together with Greg Nourse (Eric's twin brother) in December 2012. On summit day, Dave suffered the affects of altitude sickness on the Polish Glacier, one of the more difficult routes up the mountain. Dave's progress was halted early in the night at 22,000'. While Greg stayed with Dave through the night, Eric went for the summit to reach the Normal Route down. The Polish Glacier is generally too steep and icy to down climb. With Dave having the wrist GPS and the fact it was dark, Eric had difficulty finding the entry point of the Normal Route. He chose to down climb the north face of the mountain in hopes he could reach high camp and start the anticipated helicopter rescue for Dave. In the morning, Greg left Dave to assist with Dave's rescue and beat Eric to high camp by 90 minutes. The high difficult route down took 24 hours and a toll on Eric. Shortly after reaching Greg at high camp, Eric died from altitude sickness. The rescue of Dave high on the mountain was not successful, and Dave died as well. Greg was the only one to survive. Eric and Greg were exceptionally close twins, often referred to as the Nourse Twins. Dave and Greg were best friends, climbing partners and travel companions. Dave and Eric shared many of the same interests and had tremendous enthusiasm for outdoor adventures. They had enjoyed the outdoors together for over half their lives and new how to pack it in. They were born only two months apart and died together near the summit of one of the highest mountains on earth. We hope the legacy they leave behind will inspire others to pick their adventure and love to live.
This website was built and is being periodically updated to memorialize Eric Nourse and David Reinhart who both died at the age of 41 while climbing Aconcagua in Argentina on December 29th, 2012. They left a mark and won't be forgotten. This is a place to remember them by.
If you have pictures, video or other stories you would like posted on the site for either Eric or David, please let us know.
